Kids First wanted to perform two baby root canals on our 5 year old daughter due to deep cavities our original family dentist missed. I've never even heard of baby root canals. Thanks to the review below from concernedparent, I decided to take my daughter to Southport Family Dental for a third opinion. They were able to fill my daughter's cavities and didn't even mention baby root canals. I couldn't be happier with Southport Family Dental. The entire staff is super nice and friendly. Dr. Wang has a nice, easy manner and she was great with my girls. We are all very comfortable at Southport Family Dental and that is a great feeling.

When we first moved back to Fa...

When we first moved back to Fairfield County, I was very excited that Dr. Habansky was still in practice since he was our pediatric dentist and orthodontist and we loved going as a child. Unfortunately, when the practice changed from the small friendly family dental practice to the cookie cutter conglomerate of KidsFirstDentistry, I was surprised as to how much it changed from when I was a child. After a horrific experience that my child SCREAMED in pain for almost two hours while I sat in the waiting room crying and my husband sat by my 4 yr olds side as they tried to put a cap on my sons baby tooth because of a cavity, they had the nerve to bill me $1000. According to KidsFirst, This appointment booked by them on Dec 28th in which they stated was “necessary” and had to be done ASAP. Without realizing it, this would be our 3rd visit in one calendar year so our insurance would not cover it. In hindsight, I now realize it was about the $$ First, not the wellbeing of the kids. It was more important to get in as many billings before year end as possible, than to check our records and advise us to wait 3 days so this appointment would be covered by our insurance in the next calendar year. I would pay $1MM to take back what my son went through that day and that experience not only scarred him, but also me for trying to run to him while he screamed in agony only to be stopped by the staff saying “he’s fine, your husband is with him”. I am certain that Dr. Habansky would be very disappointed that his small local business turned into the practice it is now and it honestly is such a shame.

On a positive note, we have found a wonderful small family dentist in Southport that after some time of being scared of the dentist, my son has grown to love everyone at Dr. Pizzino’s office in which we all go to as a “family”. Dr. Pizzino, staff and dental hygienists such as Tina, Carmella & Kelly, all know our family members name by face and not pretending by reading it from a chart or screen. This is what I experienced as a child with Dr. Habansky and am proud to find the same, if not better, at a practice that our entire family can go to and know my children are in good hands with dentists who care about your family’s teeth and not about what they can get out of the parents pockets.

I never write reviews and you can take my advice as you like, but I just wish I had read a review like mine before experiencing what my son went through.

Absolutely Wonderful

I was referred to Kids First Pediatric Dentistry by my regular dentist. My daughter was diagnosed with cavities and she was to young for my regular dentist to treat. The dentist and staff had a special way with my daughter and made the entire experience a joy for her. The entire experience was absolutely wonderful
