I have used pawn shops for the last 25 years in several cities, and while being disappointed more than once at lower-than-expected returns, have yet until today to become truly disgusted by the in professionalism and lack of knowledge exhibited by the brokers at this shop. I'd used them once before, and from that experience I shouldve learned my lesson. I went in today with a very elite upper-end Morantz DVD player. And while yes, it was a few years old, it had only been used a handful of times and was in pristine good-as-new condition. And it has all the best features that Morantz is known for. This is a unit that I bought brand new for almost $500. And all I needed was a $55 loan on it. I was told by every staffmember there that it was outdated and nobody would want it, and they could give me $15 for it. I was told that they would never give more than that for a DVD player, no matter what the quality of it is. The manager looked on eBay and said that these units were selling for $25-30. NOT TRUE!! If they don't want to give me a loan for something, that is fine! But don't try to deceive me and take advantage of the ignorance of a few consumers. The "prices" on eBay that she was quoting were STARTING BID prices! You cannot fairly quote someone an offer based on a $5.00 starting bid auctioning item. She wouldn't respond when I asked her to look at the more accurate sell prices, which were significantly higher than the opening bids. Not to mention the additional $20.00 the buyer pays for shipping! That factors in as well. I guess I am just fed up with the dishonesty and manipulations. This pawn shop will lie and deceive any way they can to low ball you and keep you from getting fair value for your stuff. And their customer relations are a joke. Drive the few extra miles to Plano or McKinney or Denton. There are way better shops in those areas. By the way, I went to McKinney and received an $80 loan for my equipment from a more-reputable broker.
