- General Info
- Hampton History Museum is at 120 Old Hampton Ln. With Hampton said to be the oldest continuously English-speaking settlement in North America, the museum's 11 galleries showcase more than 4 centuries of local history. Artifacts highlight the diverse contributions of Native American inhabitants and also show how early European villages evolved into centers of innovation. Interactive exhibits depict the arrival of Capt. John Smith, the culture of the Powhatan Indians, the demise of the pirate Blackbeard, the 1861 burning of Hampton and the city's founding role in aeronautics and space exploration. In addition to the main galleries downstairs, changing exhibitions are presented in the upstairs galleries
