Established in 1980, AVDA, also known as Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse, is a private, nonprofit organization that serves families facing family violence. It provides advocacy and intervention and prevention programs. The organization offers legal representation for adults and children who are trapped in abusive family relationships. AVDA also provides psycho-educational counseling services. Additionally, the organization has offered advocacy and safety planning services for more than 60,000 victims of domestic abuse. It provides referral and assistance services. The organization also offers general information about temporary support orders, divorce, property division, child custody, and child and spousal support issues. AVDA is located in Houston.
