Once the service of process has been completed, the server must fill out an affidavit of serivce, also known as, "proof of service", in which needs to be notarized and given to the client as such proof., Process Servers are hired by law firms, legal support groups and even the general public that needs legal documents served to individuals, such as defendants and witnesses involved in a court case. In many states, like Massachusetts, a Process Server CANNOT be a party to the case mentioned in the documents that s/he is serving.
