General Info

The news pouring out of areas ravaged by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita has been heartbreaking. The congregation of Roseland United Methodist, along with children from Port Malabar Elementary School, employees from the Sebastian River Medical Center, Grant Engines, and residents of Palm Bay, Grant, Micco, and the Roseland area, have joined together, under the leadership of Leonard and DeeDee Hearndon, for Operation Baby Care. Enough baby items and clothing have been purchased and collected to fill a semi truck, which left Monday, October 3rd. The supplies (diapers, baby wipes, food, toys, games, and other items) are being transported to The United Methodist Conference Storm Center in Madison, Florida. From there they will be dispersed to those families needing help from the hurricanes in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. In addition to the truck full of baby items, Roseland United Methodist Church has purchased 400 health kits. These health kits were delivered to the First United Methodist Church in Vero Beach on September 25th. The health kits will then be delivered to the Gulf coast victims. $6,000 from the Hurricane Relief Fund, half of which will go to the victims of Katrina and half to Floridas Hurricane Relief Fund, has also been given by the congregation. Roseland Untied Methodist Church, through their Hurricane Relief Fund, has donated $2,000 to the First United Methodist Church of La Pace, Louisiana, to be used in the community. Their community had 10,000 evacuees looking for a place to stay to escape the storm. The funds are to help the evacuees with food, clothing, or any other needed items. Continuing relief will be given by the youth of Roseland United Methodist Church when they make a mission trip next summer to help those victims in the storm damaged areas of the Gulf make repairs on their property. Proceeds of their Pumpkin Patch sales will fund their trip. The church is continuing to give aid to the victims of the 2004 hurricane season by giving clothing to the two Head Start pre-schools in Fellsmere.
