I have a soft spot in my heart for this place and the owner, Sue. All three of my rescue dogs were kenneled here at no cost to the shelter I adopted them from as they waited for me to find them. One, a Pomeranian named Wolfe, had catastrophic health problems after receiving an overdose of antibiotics from a local pet store chain when he was way too young to get them (and it also turned out he was allergic). Anyhow, he found his way to Country Pet Retreat and after months of incredibly loving and heroic care, slowly worked his way back to health. I would also add that Wolfe needed copious veterinary care as well as Sue's nursing, and my understanding is that she bore the multi-thousand dollar cost herself, for which I am forever grateful as Wolfe is a wonderful, happy dog.

After adopting Wolfe in 2013, I started bringing all my dogs to Sue for grooming and her knowledge of animals has been really helpful as my three dogs have either health or behavioral problems that are new to me. She does a great groom at a good price and is willing to complete the process in whatever time frame works for me. Plus, her attention to detail has proven invaluable. Once she noticed the aforementioned Wolfe was having issues with his mouth and found an infected molar, so I got him to the vet who did the extraction that afternoon as the infection was acute. Also, as part of the grooming fee I can bring my dogs for nail trims in between haircuts, and this is huge for me, as my nail cutting skills are horrendous. She also sells Fromm grain-free food and has tons of toys and treats so it's kind of become my one-stop shop.

Country Pet Retreat is an older building, but well cared for and clean and my dogs are excited to come here. I can't say enough about Sue's dedication to and knowledge of animals. I highly recommend this business and its proprietor.

The knowledge, and care that Sue has for all the animals that she rescues, is outstanding. I have had on, three occasion to bring Birds out to Sue for her to rescue. These animals would have no other place to go, and survive. Thank you to you and your husband for the Great work, and it is work that you provide.

Stay away

I totally concur with the previous reviews. I stopped by this place to check it out BEFORE bringing my dog here and asked if I could see the boarding area. The owner said that it was against state law (blah blah). I have always been allowed to see the kennel area of any boarding place I have taken my dog, so this was the first tip off that something was up. The air around the place had a bad smell to it, so that was the 2nd sign to me to stay away, which I did. After reading the other two reviews, it has been confirmed that I made the best decision for my pet. If you love your pet, do not take them to Country Pet Retreat in Warrenville. The place should be investigated by the state.
