General Info
Maged Ghaly, MD, is a radiation oncologist at Northwell Health Cancer Institute, Monter Cancer Center. He specializes in treating head and neck cancers and skull base and spinal tumors using highly conformal radiation therapy and radiosurgery, which involves delivering a strong dose of highly targeted radiation directly to tumors while sparing healthy tissue and minimizing side effects. He also manages patients with pancreatic cancer using stereotactic body radiotherapy, another advanced and highly targeted approach. Dr. Ghaly has conducted numerous clinical studies on radiation therapy in tumors of the head and neck, spine and skull base, and pancreas. His goal is to improve treatment efficacy while using the latest technological advancements in the field. “I come from a family of doctors, so I was inspired to pursue medicine” says Dr. Ghaly. “During my training, I found I had a passion for helping cancer patients navigate treatment and recovery.” Dr. Ghaly earned his medical degree and completed a surgical oncology residency at the Cairo University in Egypt. After moving to the United States, he completed his residency training in radiation oncology and a fellowship focusing on intensity-modulated radiation therapy and radiosurgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. At Northwell Health, Dr. Ghaly works with a multidisciplinary team of providers to create personalized, innovative treatment plans for his patients. Depending on the diagnosis, he may collaborate with surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, gastroenterologists, dentists, pain management specialists, speech and swallowing therapists, and neurorehabilitation therapists to provide comprehensive care and support. Dr. Ghaly is an associate professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and is a member of several national and international cancer organizations. He has published numerous articles on radiation therapy in prestigious journals such as Cancer Medicine and Radiation Oncology. In 2019, he was nominated for a Northwell Health Truly Award, which recognizes doctors who have an outstanding impact on their patients. For Dr. Ghaly, the relationship he has with his patients is the most important part of his work. “I always put patients at the center of care,” he says. “I’ve got their back throughout treatment and feel privileged to provide them with ongoing support during their follow-up.”
